The Kwit Team's challenge — The clean walk

On Tuesday 19th of November, Kwit carried out a clean walk in Strasbourg to collect the cigarette butts thrown on the ground.

As the end of Tobacco-Free Month approaches, it’s an opportunity to become aware of the impact of tobacco on the environment, another source of motivation to stay non-smoker.

Butts: a major environmental problem 🚭

  • 8 milion cigarette butts are thrown away, every minute, in the world.

  • It takes an average of 12 years for a cigarette butt to deteriorate.

  • The filter is made of cellulose acetate and is treated with many toxic products.

  • A single cigarette butt pollutes up to 500 litres of water.

Smoking is therefore bad for your health but also for the planet! To learn more about the impact of tobacco on the environment, feel free to take a look at this article.

Our challenge: Fill the bottle

Kwit has decided to follow the « Fill the bottle » movement, a social networks challenge! The principle is to fill a bottle with the cigarette butts found on the ground.

On the occasion of Tobacco-Free Month, what better way to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco! Kwit therefore took on the challenge of picking up cigarette butts in the city centre of Strasbourg.

In 1 hour, the team collected 5 one-litre bottles. This is equivalent to 6,000 cigarette butts and 3,000,000 litres of water saved. Indeed, 1 cigarette butt pollutes up to 500 litres of water. Launching this challenge makes you aware of the number of cigarette butts you find on the street. Tobacco has a real cost for the environment!

By organizing this #fillthebottle event we wanted to raise awareness of the tobacco problem on our planet and on public health. And on Tuesday, November 20, we realized that it was working, many people helped us, supported us and were proud of what we were doing 💪

Partnership with NIU ☀️

Kwit did this clean walk with NIU NIU. A startup that produces an ecological and committed sunscreen.

NIU started its development with classic tubes and an SPF30 formula. To reduce the environmental impact and the number of waste, the brand does not use labels but a direct printing on the tube. The cap is a service capsule that is attached to the tube.

NIU ecological and committed sunscreen is the result of the work of two entrepreneurs from Strasbourg: Hadrien Collot and Corentin Boisselier. The idea was born 20 meters below the surface, in a face-to-face encounter with the vastness of the ocean and its marine creatures… and above all from the observation of human negligence that can unfortunately be observed during each dive.

Kwit is here to help you! 💪
