World No Tobacco Day โ€” what if your lungs were breathing for 24 hours?

May 31st is World No Tobacco Day, an annual awareness day sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) since 1987. Wouldn't this be a perfect opportunity to let your lungs breathe, just to try it, for one day?

What's World No Tobacco Day?

May 31 is World No Tobacco Day, an annual awareness day sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) since 1987. The event aims to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and encourage governments to adopt effective policies to reduce tobacco use as well as the use of other tobacco products.

In some countries, the dangers of tobacco are still unknown or underestimated by some, so this is an opportunity to raise awareness among smokers and their families and friends, and to offer them real solutions to stop smoking definitively, according to their needs.

Theme of the year

Every year, WHO chooses a new campaign theme. This year, World No Tobacco Day raises awareness of lung health. In fact, smoking has a negative and even dangerous impact on the lungs of smokers, but also on those around them. Many lung diseases result from exposure to tobacco smoke. These include chronic respiratory diseases and lung cancer. The list of these diseases and tobacco-related mortality figures is quite impressiveโ€ฆ

But we have good news! By quitting smoking, the risk of developing lung disease decreases. As soon as 24 hours after your last cigarette, the lungs start to release smoke residue, and after 72 hours it becomes easier to breathe deeply again. By quitting smoking, you will gradually regain your breath and the cough associated with smoking will disappear.

What if this is your chance to let your lungs breathe a little?

So even if you may not be ready to quit smoking for good, why not try, exceptionally, to quit smoking on this special day? This will be an opportunity for your lungs to breathe, and for you to impress your loved ones and experience how you feel by putting your addiction aside for a day. During these 24 hours without tobacco, you will be able to analyze what you feel - what makes you feel good or, on the contrary, what represents difficulties for you. This way, the day you are willing to quit for good, you will know what to expect and be ready to deal with withdrawal symptoms and nicotine deficiency. For this, don't forget to read our article dedicated to the solutions we provide to overcome these symptoms.
